DAYTONA BEACH, FL – (July 8, 2011) - Dr. Carol Eaton will mark August 3 as her first day on the job as Daytona State College’s next president. Eaton and the college’s board of trustees completed contract negotiations earlier this week, setting the stage for Daytona State to welcome its first female president in the 50-plus year history of the institution.

“I am both delighted and honored by the board of trustees’ confidence in my ability to lead Daytona State College into the future,” Eaton said. “I’m looking forward to working with them, the faculty, staff and students, developing new educational partnerships and getting acquainted with all of our colleagues and friends in the community.”

In August, she will meet with Volusia and Flagler County school officials as well as fellow leaders of area colleges and universities. Interviews with local media also have been tentatively scheduled. In September, she will meet with state government and education officials in Tallahassee, as well as with representatives of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Eaton joins Daytona State after serving six years as president of Frederick Community College, Frederick, MD, where she  developed and implemented  multiple strategic planning cycles and managed significant budget cuts during a four-year period when student enrollment rose 30 percent. Prior to Frederick, she was president of Clinton Community College, Plattsburgh, NY, where she managed a student enrollment increase of 45 percent over three years and helped increase annual donations to the college’s foundation by 25 percent.

Eaton also has been vice chancellor for community colleges at the State Universities of New York (SUNY).  In addition, she also has more than a decade of faculty experience teaching mathematics and statistics. Her Ph.D., MS and BS are from SUNY Albany and she also holds an AAS degree from SUNY Cobleskill.

She was the board’s top choice earlier this month among 44 candidates who initially applied for the presidential post.

“We are extremely pleased to have been able to attract a person of Carol Eaton’s caliber,” said Frank Lombardo, longtime faculty, senior vice president and current interim president of Daytona State, who will retire in August. “Great institutions attract great leaders, and I am confident that Daytona State will continue its tradition of excellence under her leadership.”
