DAYTONA BEACH, FL (June 13, 2011) – The Daytona State College Foundation is encouraging Daytona State College Associate of Arts graduates to apply for the Evelyn Lynn Teachers’ Education Transfer Scholarship. Established in 2004, this scholarship is awarded specifically to Daytona State College graduates who are pursuing a teaching degree and certification within the Flagler County or Volusia County school districts.
Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 are available for graduates from Daytona State College’s associate of arts transfer degree program, who will enroll in at least six credit hours during their junior year at a four-year state university in the semester for which the scholarship is sought. Applicants must also be enrolled in an education-related discipline and must provide proof of a passing score on the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAS).
Applicants must intend to obtain their K-12 teaching degree and certification within a two year period, and meet all eligibility requirements to be employed as a teacher for the Flagler County and Volusia County school districts.
Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, residents of Flagler County or Volusia County, maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, and make satisfactory progress toward program completion. Preference will be given to math, science, and exceptional student education (ESE) majors. Applicants who are members of the Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA) should identify themselves in their essay. In addition to submitting the application form, applicants may be required to interview for the scholarship.
The Evelyn Lynn Teachers’ Education Transfer Scholarship will be awarded as a multi-semester scholarship in the amount of $1,250 per semester, for up to four semesters for students enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester, or $625 per semester for up to eight semesters for students enrolled in at least six but less than 12 credit hours per semester.
Applications for the Evelyn Lynn Teachers’ Education Transfer Scholarship must be submitted by July 8, 2011.
